Prof. P Achutha Rao, Product Design: 1970, promoted the design profession during the 30 years of professional practice in the corporate world. He designed the first digital "Paper and Film Processor" in the world, in India, for large publishing industries such as newspapers and publishing houses. When working as Asst. Industrial Designer (Post equivalent to Deputy Director) in the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) of the Ministry of Industry, Govt. of India, raised the issue of promoting design in the MSME Sectors and the need to evolve a Design Policy and the need to extend financial assistance for using Design in this sector with the then Development Commissioner. As the Regional Coordinator (South India), Design Clinic Scheme, at NID Bangalore, he promoted Design in the MSME Sector. He entered the field of Design Education in 2000, and created an Industry relevant Master's Programme in "Product Design" at the School of Postgraduate studies, NTTF, Bangalore. He continues to offer Proficiency Course at the Centre for Continuing Education, at IISc Bangalore on Industrial Design/Innovative Product Development and Design Methods/Service Design/Design Thinking.
