Abstract:
Small scale farms (farm size of less than 2 hectares), form 86.21% of total agricultural land in India. Almost 50% of Indian population depends on agriculture for employment and livelihood. Along with climate change, lack of resources and awareness, these farmers are unable to afford farm machinery and tools due to lack of capital, rising costs and scarcity of appropriate technology.
The research aims at designing and developing appropriate, affordable, context-specific, and gender-friendly solutions for small farmers. The solutions will be developed using a studio research approach, which will combine domains of Industrial design and appropriate technology.
