IIT Bombay has long been celebrated for its academic excellence and innovative spirit - but equally vital to the student experience is the vibrant campus life that fosters friendships, passions, and personal growth. Over time, however, a quiet shift has taken place: informal, student-led communities have dwindled, and the once-thriving culture of grassroots clubs has given way to a landscape dominated by official, institute-backed bodies. The spontaneity, creativity, and inclusiveness of casual communities built around shared interests have been largely lost.

InstiJunta was born to address this gap, to reimagine the social fabric of campus life by giving students a dedicated platform to create events, form communities, and meet like-minded peers offline. Unlike platforms that cater broadly or operate outside the unique IIT Bombay context, InstiJunta is tailor-made for the campus and its culture. It invites students to rediscover the joy of finding "their people" not just through roles and titles, but through hobbies, ideas, and shared experiences.

This project builds upon the legacy of InstiApp, an internal app created by students in 2018 to bring important campus information under one roof. While InstiApp laid the groundwork, it left many avenues unexplored, especially those centered around real-world connections and informal student life. InstiJunta stands on its shoulders, going beyond information to foster interaction, beyond utility to create belonging.

With a fresh design approach, community-first features, and a library of 70+ custom, context-rich icons inspired by Insti culture, InstiJunta aims to bridge the growing gap between IIT Bombay’s digital tools and its physical, human-centered campus experience. From freshmen navigating their first year to seniors looking to leave behind a legacy, InstiJunta is designed to support every student’s journey - not just academically, but socially and culturally.
