Pneumatic Saw Redesign of a saw
for orthopaedic surgery

The lack of availability of quality surgical instruments in India prompted a more thorough research into the problems plaguing orthopaedic surgical instruments, which eventually led to the redesign of the pneumatic saw. The onus of the project was on developing an ergonomically 'comfortable' interface while exploring into the areas of materials, processes and mechanicals to achieve a superior design in terms of weight, handling and performance. The project involved extensive ergonomic research in the area of instrument handling and user comfort while relying upon paired comparison analysis methods to provide an accurate picture of user preferences.
