Making Faces: Making Faces tells the story of the "god-makers" of Kullu, the gods they make, and the communities that are part of both the creative process and its accompanying rituals. Pursuing itinerant artists across difficult mountainous terrain with little means of communication between thinly populated, high-altitude villages, the book evokes this world in rich visual and descriptive detail as it explores the ways in which both object and artisan are received and their identities transformed during a period of artistic endeavor. |
