The student's projects can be sponsored by the industry.

Sponsorship of Project II
(Four months from July to November)

The project II is of four month duration, July to November, done in IDC, under the guidance of a faculty member. This project is of redesign nature, and the students take up any available product from the market and try to redesign them for better features, user friendliness, and usability.

The project II can be sponsored by Industry and the student has to work in IDC only, as he will be doing other courses.

The sponsored projects will have the following requirements:
. One guide from IDC and one from the industry.
. Should be completed in specified time period July to November.
. Should end in a product model/video/artwork/AV/etc.
. Should have a project report including the three stages of data collection, concepts and final product with appropriate introduction, design brief, appendix, and references.
. Two presentations, one interim presentation and final presentation. Both presentations would be held in IDC. The interim presentation will be with IDC faculty members and industry representative, and final presentation with guide, internal examiner, and an external examiner, where grades will be awarded.
. The comments of the final presentation will be incorporated in the project report and the model/AV/Video, etc. and exhibited in the Design Degree Show (DDS) in the last week of May.

Industry Sponsorship fees:
. Payment of one time sponsorship fee to IDC of Rs. Thirty thousand only (RS 30,000/-) payable in advance in favor of 'The Registrar IIT Bombay'. Cost of Prototype and materials for mockup model would be extra as per the requirements.

General Terms & conditions:
. Before commercializing design ideas, Company will have to sign an agreement with IIT Bombay to pay Royalty at mutually agreeable terms. Patent should be taken jointly with IIT Bombay though the commercial rights will remain with client as per the royalty agreement.

Industry Return:
. Industry sponsoring the project will be given a copy of the project report, which will contain the final model photograph, drawings, etc. and also the model. The model may be available to IDC for the DDS exhibition.

Calendar of Events: (Project II)
.The project II will run simultaneously with other theory courses. So the project will have to be undertaken in IDC.
. The project starts in July and ends in November.
. The interim presentation will be in middle of September.
. The project should be complete in middle of November.

Sponsorship of Project III
(Five months from December to April)

Project III is of five months duration, December to April. The student will work on a specific problem of the industry, and come up with a product idea, complete in all respect.

Project III can be sponsored by Industry and the student can work in the industry as a member of the R&D team.

The sponsored projects will have the following requirements:
. One guide from IDC and one from the industry.
. Should be completed in specified time period December to April for Project III
. Should end in a product model/video/artwork/AV/etc.
. Should have a project report including the three stages of data collection, concepts and final product with appropriate introduction, design brief, appendix, and references.
. Two presentations, one interim presentation and final presentation. Both presentations would be held in IDC. The interim presentation will be with IDC faculty members and industry representative, and final presentation with guide, internal examiner, and an external examiner, where grades will be awarded.

. The project III will run simultaneously with the special project. If the sponsoring industry wants the student to work in the industry then the student should take up such special projects that they can do in the location.
. The project starts on December first and ends on April 30, of the next year.
. The interim presentation will be in the last week of February and the students should be in IDC for this. . The project work in the industry should be completed up to April 30. This should include preparation for the final presentation. The student may be required to present his work to the industry. If so, this should be done in the last week of April.
. The final presentation of the project would be on first week of May in IDC.
. DDS exhibition would be held on the last week of May.
