RESUME
Designing Indian sitting style furniture for contemporary lifestyle
Guide: Prof. Uday A. Athvankar
An extensive study of the habits of people in Indian sitting
style was carried out by testing a study rig. The solution came in the form of a stand alone single seat chair made up of Stainless steel pipe structure with bent plywood for the base and woven jute for the backrest. A special support at arms level along with a specially contoured polyurethane foam seat is also provided to fulfil the
requirements of the Indian sitting postures.
The proposed design would help to reposition the Indian sitting style furniture as it is suitable for the day to day
activities and fits in contemporary interiors, thus fulfilling the demand for the specific kind of furniture in the
market.
Home Automation Products
Guide: Prof. B.K. Chakravarthy
Tanla Solutions Ltd, Hyderabad
The project involved external styling of complete range of Home Automation products for domestic as well
as international market starting from market study of similar products to presentation in the form of mock up models
and photorealistic renderings.
The project gave an opportunity to work in a completely professional environment and directly interact with client. It
was an experience of its kind to find out the exact requirements of client (who are non-designers) through long
discussions and converting them into feasible design solutions and again presenting them to the client for approval.
All the products were appreciated vey well and will hit the Indian market very soon.
Lifestyle Products: Form Exploration
Guide: Prof. R. Sandesh
The curiosity of knowing what converts a product into lifestyle product in post-modern context was the starting point of this project.
The study involved understanding lifestyle products, analysing the contemporary kitchen scenario, understanding the basic mechanism and functioning of the appliances and working on the form possibilities for the same.
The opportunity of designing a range of kitchen appliances which included a mixer grinder, an electric toaster and a hand blender was exploited by exploring their formal treatment to have a family look amongst them to position them in the category of lifestyle products.
